Environmental Permit also issued for the PC Črnomelj Location

On April 13 2010 the Environmental Agency of the Republic of Slovenia issued an environmental permit to LIVAR d.d., PC Črnomelj. After receiving an environmental permit for its location in Ivančna Gorica on 11 June 2009, the foundry has now been issued an environmental permit for its Črnomelj location, thus successfully concluding the acquisition process and resolving its application. For both locations, the environmental permit means permission for their operation, as well as the supervision of companies bound to observe the European IPPC Directive. Although the permit is issued for a period of ten years, it is imperative that our operation is continuously in line with the requirements embodied in the permit. This means that Livar's operations are to be consistent with legal requirements in the araa of environmental protection, which has been a permanent priority policy of the company since the very begianning of implementation of our environmental management system in 2001.

MODERNISATION OF CASTING ON THE ASPA MOULDING LINE

Since September 2009, intensive activities have been focused on the modernisation of the pouring process on the ASPA moulding line. Our past experience has shown that the existing manual pouring method does not allow for the pouring of more complex items, and also results in a high percentage of scrap and customer complaints. A study of the line’s operating speed, weight of castings in individual moulds, as well as requirements for stable temperature and casting quality have shown that the most favourable among the proposed known solutions for the modernisation of the pouring process is a foundry furnace adapted for nodular cast iron.
At the end of December 2009, our foundry ordered from the CIME company in Torino a restored 2-ton CAP 2 foundry furnace, whose patented elliptical coil shape and heated feeding-in/discharging siphons meet the requirements for the casting of nodular cast iron. In the period preceding the delivery of the furnace, activities were under way to ensure high voltage for the connection and installation of the furnace’s transformer, the design and execution of a pit beneath the furnace, the ordering and execution of a landing, and the preparation of electricity, gas and water installations. The delivery of the CAP 2 foundry furnace to the location of Livar d.d. is scheduled at the end of the 16th work week, while the assembly and installation of the furnace is foreseen at the end of April or beginning of May. The startup of the modernised casting process is planned after 11 May 2010.
A group of technologists from the Livar foundry is actively engaged in the modernisation of the pouring process on the ASPA moulding line, and is responsible for the planning, coordination and execution of works required for installation of the furnace.

New Acquisition at the PC Foundry Črnomelj

Several significant improvements have been made in the past six months at the foundry in Črnomelj. The most important among these is the reconstruction of green-sand mixture preparation using the M100 Speedmuller mixer, which was upgraded with a new system for addition and the control of all components.
The modernised green-sand preparation process guarantees the constant quality of the prepared mixture.

Savings in Materials and Reduced Quantity of Wastes

In December 2009, a rotary shakeout drum for the Disamatic moulding line was installed at the foundry in Črnomelj. This enables the effective separation of sand from castings in the first phase of the casting cleaning process. The result is a substantially smaller loss of sand and, consequently, a smaller quantity of moulding sand wastes.
